	NWSRA earned the prestigious Gold Medal Award in 1981 and 1988 for excellence in the field of park and recreation management through The National Park and Recreation Association.		In 2004 NWSRA earned Distinguished Recognition as a Park and Recreation Agency by the Illinois Park and Recreation Association after a voluntary comprehensive evaluation process.
